The University of Twente is a young, entrepreneurial university. It sets standards in the field of new technology and seeks to stimulate change, renewal and progress in society. Our strength lies in our capacity to combine. We work with the technologies of the future in which behavioural and social science research play a vital role. After all, the most interesting and relevant innovation takes place at the interface between technology and its implications for mankind and society. According to the “Vision 2020” strategy document, the University of Twente targets 40% international master student inflow by 2020, meaning that all programmes will be taught in English. As a consequence of this strategy, all study programmes are encouraged to initiate structural international collaboration and establish a close network of partners and consoritums. In this context, the Erasmus + consortium perfectly supports the internationalization strategy of our university.
The University of Twente is one of the top 5 global universities in purchasing & supply management science and education: From a research perspective, Twente is one of the four “centres of excellence” recognised by IPSERA (International Purchasing Science, Education and Research Association). In the last five years (2010-2014) Twente was the most active university presenting at specific international conferences, mainly the IPSERA conference. In terms of publications in the leading journals it ranges at position 3, after Arizona and Lappeenranta. Taking all purchasing / procurement / sourcing related publications as listed in the SCOPUS database together, Twente ranges, together with Lappeenranta, on place 5. According to the same sample, Prof. Schiele is the fourth most published professor of purchasing management in the world. What concerns education, Twente was the first university to be awarded with the “Global Standard for Professional Competence in Purchasing and Supply administered by IFPSM”, which is a voluntary certification indicating the practice relevance of the study programme. Twente is the only Dutch university offering a full bachelor specialisation in purchasing and the second public university in Europe to offer a master profile in purchasing (the other being our partner university Lappeenranta, with whom we offer a joint double degree programme and which is also member of the application consortium for this Erasmus + application). UTIPS – The University of Twente Initiative for Purchasing Studies is one of the two business administration oriented centres of expertise recognized by the research institute IGS of the University of Twente.
